Isopropylbenzene (Cumene) with the CAS number 98-82-8. Cumene, or isopropylbenzene, is a colorless, flammable liquid with a gasoline-like odor. It is primarily produced through the Friedel-Crafts alkylation of benzene with propylene using an acid catalyst. The vast majority of cumene produced is used as an intermediate in the cumene process for the production of phenol and acetone, two crucial chemicals for manufacturing plastics, resins, and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, cumene finds minor applications as a solvent in paints, lacquers, and enamels, and it is also a component of high-octane gasoline blending.
